Chronology of cameras Agfa Ansco

Agfa and Ansco joined forces in the American market between 1928 and 1943. Agfa-Ansco, a subsidiary of I.G. Farbenindustrie in the United States infiltrated by Nazi spies (as reported on the evening of August 5, 1951), was absorbed as enemy property, and Ansco continued its activities independently.

During this period, some models were marketed under the Agfa Ansco or Ansco brand. This partnership is the reason why one can find Agfa cameras labeled "Made in USA."

__________

The Memo camera was among the last camerasof a German-American lineage. It likely dates back to the late 1930s. It is a small horizontal bellows camera that uses the 24 x 36 mm format with a Karat cartridge (originally from Agfa) renamed "memo." Its Memar lens has an aperture of 5.6. The shutter offers speeds of 1/25, 1/50, and 1/100 seconds, as well as B (bulb) and T (time) settings.

In 1941, this camera was priced at $14.50 in the USA.

Its uniqueness lies in its winding mechanism. On the back, there is a slider to be moved along a rail. At the end of its path, the slider rotates the frame counter. Two springs bring the slider back to its starting position. This mechanism is very effective in terms of handling. Since Karat/Memo cartridges lack a spindle, the slider moves two claws into the perforations of the 24 x 36 mm film. It can be assumed that at the end of the film, threading the film into the cartridge might have been a bit more challenging, and the slider could sometimes tear the perforations.
